A Study in Art and Presence

$20.00

Sunday, March 29, 6:00 PM (PST)

Online workshop. Zoom link sent after registration.

Group size: limited to 10 participants

A 55-minute workshop in slowing down, being present, and finding art in everyday experiences.

Beauty is everywhere, from the masterworks in museums to the shadows cast by sunlight through trees or the way dark clouds sit against bright glass architecture. This workshop is a scheduled pause designed to help us notice the visual details that surround us.

Viewing a varied collection of artworks from institutions like MoMA, the Getty, and the National Gallery of Art, we’ll use simple prompts to practice the skill of observation. No art background or expertise is required.

What beauty can you find right now?

This is not a lecture. It is a place to pause and explore our own definitions of beauty. Together we’ll consider how paying closer attention changes the way we experience the world around us.

What to Expect

  • We’ll look at ten artworks together, taking a few minutes with each to see what reveals itself through elements like balance, color, and light.

  • We’ll talk about how we respond to what we see and how different people notice different things in the same image.

  • There are no right answers and no requirement to speak. You’re welcome to share your observations or simply listen.

  • All participants receive access to The Art of Observation workbook, a resource designed to help you continue practicing observation on your own.

  • Follow-up Meeting: Participants will be invited to an optional conversation after the workshop to share how their daily observation has shifted.

Who This Is For

  • People looking for a calm, restorative space to refocus their attention.

  • Those who want to explore art without the weight of expert interpretation.

  • Anyone interested in finding creative inspiration and new ways of thinking both in museums and in everyday life.
